Exploring the northern capital with the “Guest Card”

08:07, 26 августа 2011

This August the city program “Saint Petersburg’s Guest Card” issues the extended and improved version of its product. One of the general partners of the project is the North-West Regional Office of the Russian Union of Travel Industry.

Similar schemes aimed at increasing the city’s guests’ loyalty is in use in many developed capitals of the world (New York City, Berlin, Stockholm and others), and Saint Petersburg is a first Russian city to fully implement it.

The “Guest Card” is indeed a card, only electronic. Its holder is entitled to a package of privileges. For instance, some free sightseeing tours, such as a guided bus tour from City Tour Company (yet another project of European level) and a choice of three different cruises along the city’s rivers and channels. The program’s new features include free travel to Kronstadt by a “Meteor” speedboat and admission to the town’s famous forts.

A cardholder may visit 25 city’s museums free of charge. For one, in the State Hermitage he will be met by a guide, taken to the museum without standing in line and given a thorough tour around the exposition. Besides that, upon producing the card at many participating hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants one gets an up to 50% discount.

One of this season’s innovation is that now tourists have more flexibility. Now the card is good for two to seven days, and the price complies. Among other things a kids’ card for our young travelers is to be introduced real soon. It will be providing the same privileges for kids from 7 to 17 years of age as it does for the adults, but at a 40-50% discount.

Another new convenient feature of the Guest Card is its integration with electronic public transport ticket. The new version of the card will include several metro, bus or tram rides for 100 roubles. The system will be being constantly upgraded, soon the tourists will be able to top-up their transport limit at special terminals and cash registers on the underground stations.

The Guest Card can be purchased online, at the City Tourist Information Center offices, at the project’s partners (hotels, restaurants, etc.) and even in “Taxi 068”. Since the end of August it will be sold onboard Russia’s branded trains. The talks on selling the cards on Sapsan and Allegro high-speed trains are underway, too.
