Estonia is happy with Russia’s performance in 2010

08:07, 21 марта 2011

2010 showed positive growth of 51% year-on-year in tourist arrivals from Russia. And compared to the pre-recession year of 2008 the increase amounts to as much as 58%. The tourist flow has been growing quite stable – the most modest level was seen in June (34.9%) and the highest – in November (116.5%).

The number of Russian overnights in SPA-hotels increased by 79%, other accommodation facilities gained 38%. The share of SPA-hotels nights in the total number rose from 27.5% in 2009 to 33% in last year.

Russian tourists were staying mostly in Tallinn. In this city the figure increased by over 70 thousand. However the Tallinn’s share decreased from 67% in 2006 to 66% in 2010.

The main reason for such a rapid growth is the Estonia Tourist Office’s marketing policy aimed at promotion of the country’s tourist attractions in Russia. Estonia is becoming more and more popular New Year destination. Improved transportation between Tallinn and Saint Petersburg and more beneficial TaxFree conditions allowed Estonia to shore up its position as a shopping destination.

Last year Estonian Embassy’s consulate in Russia issued 37025 entry visas, which is almost 13% more compared to 2009. 47% of all the visas were long-term, last year the number of such visas amounted to 53%. This fact comfirms the growing number of first-time visitors to Estonia.
