Nepal had a huge presentation and a small workshop in Moscow

23:28, 20 марта 2012

The budget of Nepal gets about 3% from tourism. In 2010 that amounted to around $33 million. Out of the 28-million population 300 thousand are involved in tourism and 730 thousand work in related fields. This data was voiced by Aditi Baral, Head of the Nepal Tourism Board during the presentation of the republic’s tourism capabilities. According to him, the tourist flow rose to almost 1 million visitors, which is 23% more than in 2010. As for Russians, 6.8 thousand of them visited Nepal in 2010. Mr. Baral noted that it’s 110% more than during the economical crisis. Head of the Nepal Tourist Board did not give any exact numbers, but said that the quantity of Russian tourists arriving to the Katmandu airport rose by 33% in 2011.

Apparently this rise in the tourist flow was the cause for such a massive presentation (at least by Nepali standards). Moscow tour operators who came to this event noted that the interest was mutual on both sides. Executive Director of Astravel, Gennadiy Kotov said that the number of people who want to visit Nepal grows every year. For instance, during the upcoming May holidays the operator will be sending 50 people to this country. A total of 500 people used Astravel’s services over the last year to travel to Nepal, which is good considering the country is very exotic. Other factors that positively affect the demand are easily obtained visas, good hotels (clean and simple, according to Gennadiy Kotov) and the fact that there are a lot of locals who speak Russian – ex-students from Russian and Soviet collages.

Many tour operators were brought to the presentation by increasing number of requests from their clients. Sales Manager of Sodis, Zlata Kovateva said that often tourists wan to combine their visit to Nepal with neighboring India and Bhutan. Vita Putinceva from Latina told that many of their VIP clients, who have already traveled a lot, are interested in exotic destinations because they want to see something new and original. Valeriy Lisafev, Manager of the Corporate Department in DSBV-tours noted that corporate clients sometimes ask for new peculiar places to hold their events.

A small workshop was part of the presentation. Three tour operators have come to Moscow to present their programs for the first time - ACE the Himalaya Pvt. Ltd., Nepal and Beyond Travels & Tours, My Nepal Adventure Tours & Travels
