Russians are a bit afraid of home-made aircraft, but will risk for a discount

08:07, 25 февраля 2013

Russian travelers consider locally madeaircraft less safe and prefer flying by Boeings and Airbuses if they have a choice. That's what was revealed by a polling carried out among 2145 Russian users of a major online flight search engine Kayak.

The majority of pollees (45%) ranked Boeing as the most reliable aircraft, and almost the same number (43%) gave their voices to Airbus. About 6% named Tupolev, and less than 1% went for Yak. Surprisingly enough, 5% of respondents believe that the safest airplanes are made by Ilyushin, whose most wide-spread machine (IL-86) has been out of production and service for some years now.

As it turns out, even despite the Russians' high level of trust in foreign-made aircraft, over 42% of the pollees are ready to board a plane they believe to be more dangerous in return for a discount. 12% of them don't mind taking the risk to save as little as €25, while 83% would only agree to do so if at least €75 is taken off their airfare.
