Tour operators managed to maintain the 2011's tourist flow to Tunisia

15:33, 22 октября 2012

According to the data of the Tunisian National Tourist Office in Russia, the country's resorts welcomed over 240 thousand Russian tourists in 2012; that is 45% more compared to figures of 2010, which is considered a showcase year for the destination. It means that the Russians haven't been too frightened by the last year's election win of an Islamic party in Tunisia.

"There've been no major dumping on the destination; all flights have been loaded for some 85%" - explains Director General of Nouvelle-Trans Company Mr. Alexander Orlovsky. However, he adds, one shouldn't expect any "outbursts" of demand for Tunisia - this period is traditionally considered a low season at local resorts. Most Russians visit Tunisia using special programs for seniors. Such a tour with 4-star accommodation goes for around €1500 for three months. Speaking of New Year festive season in particular, says Director General of Nord Company Mr. Alexey Fadeyev, around 1-1.5 thousand Russian tourists leave Moscow for Tunisia during this time of year. What the tourist flow is going to be like this year will be more clear in late November, when most of bookings usually start - notes the Head of Nord.

On the other hand, Director General of Vand International Tour Mrs. Tatiana Vand believes that it's too early to speak of the tourist flow's recovery before the political tension in Egypt and Syria eases. The same applies to other countries of the Arab world, particularly Morocco and Jordan. "Tour operators may drag the destination up by selling tours for less than they actually cost. It creates the tourist flow, but the tour operators get no profits" - Mrs. Vand stressed out. According to her, the number of those who wish to spend their holidays in Tunisia is very low so far. And in these circumstances it is not likely that anyone would be brave enough to launch a charter flight, which was possible before.

Perhaps the Tunisian National Tourist Office could help Russian tour operators in this complicated situation. Its rep office in Moscow is now once again headed by Mr. Mejid Kahlaoui. He is very well known to tour operators working on the destination; before his departure to the Russian department of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Kahlaoui had been representing Tunisian travel sector on the Russian market for almost six years.

"I really hope that the growth of the tourist flow will be followed by serious investments into the Russian market. First of all it should be felt by our partner tour operators" - Mr. Mejid Kahlaoui pointed out in an interview to RATA-news. The campaign will most likely be focused on large-scale promotion activities. According to Mr. Kahlaoui, Tunisia hopes to welcome up to 600 thousand Russian tourists every year by 2015.
