How do Russians envisage the plane of the future?

08:07, 22 июня 2012

In May, JAL airline started using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on flights from Moscow to Tokyo. The body of this model is made up from composite materials – and this allowed builders to make the plane light and durable. The liner stands out with bigger illuminators and improved LED lighting. Amongst Russian airlines who have signed a contract for the Boeing 787 are Aeroflot and Transaero, shipment of the first planes is already expected next year.

The flight ticket search system Skyscanner surveyed its users, how they see the ideal plane of the future. As it turns out, this plane must have sleeping cabins. 20% of the 1000 users interviewed were for them. 26% of travellers voted for the integration of novelties and found this more relevant, which would permit a more comfortable journey for those travelling with kids, 18% expressed their desire for sound proof areas fit for smaller travellers, and 8% want all seats on the plane of the future to be fitted with backs, which would not react to pushes and shoves from behind.

Most passengers dream about complete relaxation during the flight – massaging chairs took fourth place on the list of most wanted additions, getting a total of 8% of the votes, right behind that with 5% of the votes is the free rental of the internet-tablet iPad. Passengers aren’t really keen on seeing more of the skies and clouds during the flight, with only one out of 20 expressing the desire for see through floors and ceilings. 4% of  travellers who took part in the survey voted in favour of a special cabin for single travellers, who aren’t tied down with family burdens, so they can meet new people, get to know each other and maybe even flirt a little. Around the same amount of passengers said they would like the opportunity to take a shower during the flight.
