Tenerife expects 30% more Russians than a year ago
Accordingto the statistics of the Tenerife Island's government, the tourist flow from Russia shows an upward trend for the last several years. In the previous year the number of Russians exceeded last years rates by 25.5% and amounted to 140 thousands. Tenerife is the second most popular Spanish destination after Catalonia. As the Director General of the Tenerife Tourism Department Miguel Angel Santos explained, this year the island expects up to 180 thousands of our compatriots. Local authorities are very interested in the growth of the flow. That"s why they decided to become more noticeable on the Russian market. "Since April this year Aviareps AG Company represents our interests in Russia and other CIS countries," explained Mr. Santos. The representatives of the Tenerife travel office already met the capital's tour operators, and today they will meet the representatives of the tourist industry in St. Petersburg.
Annually Tenerife receives about 6 million tourists. The British market traditionally
holds the first place, inner Spanish market holds the second place, Germans
hold the third place, Scandinavian region is on the fourth place and Russians
are on the fifth place. The share of Russian tourists is around 3% of the total
tourist arrivals. Tenerife is the most popular destination of the Canary
Islands among Russians. In 2012 it was visited by more than 96% of all Russians
who arrived to the Canary Islands.
There's
a direct flight between Russia and Tenerife which takes seven hours.
