Reindeer-breeders offer tourists to stay in a nomad camp with them

08:07, 16 апреля 2012

A new tourist project, life among reindeer-breeders, was developed in Mezensky district of Arkhangelsk Region. As a participant of the project, Marina Potrokhova told Regnum, that Mezensky district was the only place in the European north, where one can easily get to a nomad camp within one day. And this advantage was decided to be used for tourism development.

The area of Mezensky district has always been a migration route for herds of deer. Every year in December one can watch a fantastic sight: deer walk through centuries-beat paths with the leader ahead and the rest of the herd behind. From now on it can be enjoyed by tourists who will decide to live a life of a reindeer-breeder within the period from December to April: to move with his deer and to look after them, to learn to live in a chum and cook traditional Nenets and Pomor food, admire the magnificent Aurora Borealis and the  endless tundra.

This tour product was invented by reindeer-breeders from Nenets region themselves and their friends from Mezenskaya village Karyepolye. Finnish colleagues helped the owners, and they were also the first to test this new and unique for the Arkhangelsk region route. Tourists are offered to live in an ancient wooden house in Karepolye village and in the nomad camp, visit old Pomor villages, wash oneself in traditional Russian baths, enjoy generous northern hospitality and ordinary home-cooked food.
