30,000 Russians visited Georgia after visa waiver
The decree of the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on visa
waiver for Russian citizens has come into force on February 29, 2012. The visa
regime between the two countries has been imposed by the initiative of the
Russian side in December, 2000. Now Russians don’t need visas if they’re
staying for no longer than 90 days. «From February 29 till today the border of
Georgia was crossed by 30 thousand citizens of Russia which is 70 % more compared
to the same period last year», - declared the Press Secretary of the Head of State
Mrs. Manana Mandzhgaladze. According to her, this data confirms “correctness of
the decision on unilateral visa waiver for the Russians”.
Besides all other positive sides, Mrs. Mandzhgaladze noted that with the
increase of the number of Russian tourists, the income from the country's tourist
infrastructure is growing, reports RIA Novosti.
