Natural disaster or bad weather

08:07, 1 апреля 2011

Flooding on the South of Thailand did not affect resort territories, though the bad weather, rain and strong wind forced holidaymakers to make some changes in their vacation plans. But information about “flooded” and “mudded” resorts that many medias reported is not confirmed by tourists or touroperators.

Flooding was caused by the abnormal pouring rains, five provinces were declared zone of natural disaster, including several hotels in the provinces Chumphon and Songhkla. Local authorities work in close contact with National Tourism Authority of Thailand and organize evacuation of tourists from the hotels that suffered damages. But neither Phuket, nor Samui, where usually Russian tourists spend vacation were flooded.

Maksim Lobanov, vice-president of «Paks» company thinks that tourists consider the situation in Thailand not as a natural disaster but as bad weather. «Swimming is forbidden because of a strong gale, the sea cruises are cancelled. But the airport on Phuket is operating, electricity and phones are working, - Mr. Lobanov told RATA-news. – Though the airport on Samui can receive only small aircraft, so it's temperary closed because of the strong wind. Planned to be open on Tuesday».

Similar comments were given by the general director of TEZ Tour Thailand Andrey Novikov: tourists have no problems with communication, several persons cannot leave Samui because the airport is closed but not on account of flooding but because of the rains and strong wind. The mainland resorts of Krabi and Phang Nga are not affected by the flooding either.

Weather forecasts say that cyclone that brought abnormal precipitations and low for that season temperatures will weaken and leave Thailand territories within the next 3 days.
